Identity and Representation

This week we really focused on Stuart Hall's introduction to Representation. It ties into culture and language a lot that my writing group and I had those same words on our wordle. From the reading I got that we don't really learn something or know something until we represent it to others. We do not all speak the same language or practice the same culture so it's something beautiful when try to represent ourselves using different objects. Although we speak different languages we still have a lot of the same morals. For instance, we all know that killing someone is wrong universally so it brings us together. Also we have a lot of the same interests..like music and sports. We have the World Cup; it brings us all together..people of different languages and cultures still come together for the same interests. The point is that even though we're all different in our own ways we have more things that bring us together than shift us apart. :)

  1. I wrote about the same thing for my blog post this week as well. I just loved the message it sent out and I think it's important for everyone to understand the meaning behind representation and how it can bring people together from all over the world.

  2. I agree with you and I agree with his meesage. It was kind of funny and crazy that every group in the class had the same three words, but I do agree on them. Representation is a key factor in today's society, as well as language and culture. Before we get to understand other people and their ways of life, we need to learn about there culture and how it plays in with language (such as the language we speak) and representing something we hold in value.

  3. Both you and Jordan wrote about the same thing. I thought that this assignment was something that was interesting becuase it allowed us to see what the author was really trying to get across and what was the most important meaning from the reading.
